Have
you noticed that the prices for Musky tackle have been on the increase?
I went to a few of the
major Musky tackle on-line stores and I was amazed at how prices have
soared. From talking with a few of the component suppliers, it became
apparent that some of the increase is due to an increase in raw material.
Metals like brass, copper and stainless steel have all experienced increases
causing lure products that use these metals to pass that increase along.
That accounts for some of
the increase, but one would think that the raw material increase could be
spread across the quantity of tackle produced thereby keeping the increase
minimal. That is not what I have seen.
Perhaps it has something to
do with the fact that there are only about 35,000 hard core Musky anglers in
America. That is a very small market when compared to anglers that pursue
other fish species such as Bass. Consequently, material increases are spread
over a smaller production quantity providing a greater impact to the retail
price.
Here is a little price
comparison:
From this little pricing
exercise of On-line stores, you can see that prices will vary by 1 – 3
dollars depending on where you buy your stuff.
With the economy in the
toilet, tackle purchases are taking a back seat to food and rent. Now, more
than ever, it is wise to shop the Internet for the best prices for your
Musky tackle purchases. Remember that you will have to add the cost of
shipping to your purchases.
